PTR
(Redirected from PTR Records)
Also known as "Reverse DNS", PTR's take ips and resolve them to hostnames.
PTR Records are a type of record that go in a special zone on the DNS servers that are designated by ARIN to be authoritative for a certain IP block.
For Sago ips, ns1.sagonet.com and ns2.sagonet.com are authoritative, so if you need a PTR, you have to ask us.
Look it up!
You can lookup PTR records in cool way using dig!
dig +trace -x 66.118.170.2
Or the simple way using host:
$ host 66.118.128.10 Name: tech.noc.sagonet.net
Why We Use Them
PTR records are helpful when running trace's, and they are important for mail servers because the can help sperate the legitimate one from the illegitimate ones.
