An enterprise server is a name-brand server. Enterprise servers generally are higher quality than performance servers, all have 2+GB of RAM with the ability to scale up to even greater capacity including 16-32GB of RAM. Enterprise servers contain at least two drives and up to 6 drive RAID arrays.
Enterprise servers also come with SCSI or SAS drives with speeds from 10K RPM to 15K RPM which allows for very fast data retrieval. These servers are very reliable Name-brand servers such as Dell or IBM hardware and have the purpose of minimizing potential downtime and are also referred to as high availability servers.
Hot swappable drives allows a technician to actually replace a hard drive that may be suspect or going bad without powering down the server if configured with the proper RAID configuration. These server are ideal as database servers, VPS servers when equipped with VT technology, or consolidating corporate systems.
These servers come with two 1Gbps Networks interface ports so connecting to the internet and a seperate connection to a private network makes them ideal for server clustering.
